Programmatic pillar Creation — Imagined territories

A walking tour led by Sinho Baessa de Pina in the eastern part of Porto, between Campanhã Station and Antas. Part of the “Creation - Imagined Territories” theme, this walk offers a critical and sensitive reading of the territory, centered on the Afro-descendant, African, and diasporic communities that inhabit—or have inhabited—this part of the city. The walk evokes memories, traces, and everyday experiences that reveal often-invisible layers of Porto’s urban fabric.

Through listening to the place, the body in motion, and the sharing of narratives, the route explores how the city can be read as a living archive of stories, gestures, and movements. Inspired by the methodology of the Noz Stòria routes, developed by Sinho in Lisbon, the journey intertwines history, memory, and imagination to ask: Can a place tell the stories of others? If so, how do these stories become visible—through which cultural practices, urban landmarks, or human presences?

Amid streets, encounters, and memories, the walk invites participants to recognize how bodies, movements, and narratives contribute to shaping and reinventing the city.

Eastern Walks

The guided walks organised as part of the Caminhos a Oriente project are intended as an exploration of Porto’s Eastern District, undertaken collectively through the act of walking.

During these walks, there will be an opportunity for a discussion halfway through the route, during which participants will be invited to share their impressions of the walk so far.
